Welcome to The Venture Diaries!
I'm Maria Gilfoyle, a Stanford MBA student, former early-stage investor at Madrona Venture Group, and startup operator. I've had the incredible opportunity to partner with and invest in companies across AI applications, software infrastructure, and consumer internet, as well as spend a few months working as a PM at Typeface AI.
Throughout this newsletter, I aim to dive deep into next-generation technology companies, platform shifts, and top takeaways from my Stanford GSB classes.
What's on my mind…
I see today's entrepreneurs as the contemporary artists of our era. Throughout my life, I've studied fine art and design, driven by the joy of creating something new. This passion ignited my interest in entrepreneurship and computer science. Just as a sculptor shapes a block of marble, an entrepreneur must decide which strategies to prioritize and which to discard. Like artists, software developers and technology entrepreneurs use elements from the past to shape the future, transforming the unimaginable into the inevitable. I'm drawn to companies with a clear obsession for the end user, those reimagining how humans work and live. The intersection of culture and technology trends fascinates me.
